Clean Energy Access ToolBeta
Welcome to the JRC’s Clean Energy Access Tool for visualizing and analyzing information on electricity access in Africa and the overall energy outlook.
The tool is developed and hosted by the European Commission Joint Research Centre
What?
The Clean Energy Access (CEA) is an analytical tool developed to provide geospatial context to electricity access in Africa, and specifically to factors that influence the deployment of decentralised renewables in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The CEA tool particularly focuses on rural population and social infrastructure with minimal or no access to electricity
Why?
By providing reliable high-resolution geospatial data on energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Clean Energy Access Tool can be of interest to both institutional and private stakeholders in the energy sector, such as policy makers,
international donors, governments and philanthropic investors
How?
Multiple access modes:
- a) Visualisation and analysis of electricity access based on user-defined polygons (access to electricity, population distribution, grid infrastructure, social infrastructure, power stations and energy resources)
- b) Visualisation and aggregation of electricity access at national and/or subnational level
- c) Basemaps at continental level to support contextualisation. The basemaps redirect to the AKP to allow datasets and metadata download
- d) Support identification of suitable locations for off-grid sustainable investments in Sub-Saharan Africa (PV-DEI index)
